Nikola Tesla Predicted that the Weather Could Be Controlled and He Was Right.

More than 100 years ago, Nikola Tesla reflected on the first time he had the idea to control the weather. Now, China is spending billions to prove that weather modification is possible.

Tesla wrote:

One day, as I was roaming in the mountains, I sought shelter from an approaching storm. The sky became overhung with heavy clouds but somehow the rain was delayed until, all of a sudden, there was a lightning flash and a few moments after a deluge. This observation set me thinking. It was manifest that the two phenomena were closely related, as cause and effect, and a little reflection led me to the conclusion that the electrical energy involved in the precipitation of the water was inconsiderable, the function of lightning being much like that of a sensitive trigger.”

He continued to say:

“If we could produce electric effects of the required quality, this whole planet and the conditions of existence on it could be transformed. The sun raises the water of the oceans and winds drive it to distant regions where it remains in a state of most delicate balance. If it were in our power to upset it when and wherever desired, this mighty life-sustaining stream could be at will controlled. We could irrigate arid deserts, create lakes and rivers and provide motive power in unlimited amounts. This would be the most efficient way of harnessing the sun to the uses of man. The consummation depended on our ability to develop electric forces of the order of those in nature.”

Some of what is said here may sound a bit off, so here are some things to keep in mind. Tesla’s above quotes about weather are his recounting of those initial impressions of what he witnessed as a young man, as told from his memory as an older man. This is not necessarily what Tesla believed objectively about weather, and these quotes are more an afterthought given within his description of a series of events that led him to other discoveries.

FACT OR FICTION? Can humans control the weather?

For a long time, it was considered impossible for humans to control the weather. Past attempts have yielded results that are not very impressive. More recently however, there has been an enormous investment into these ideas by governments and corporations.

China’s government is the principal example. China is spending billions of dollars and dedicating a landmass of more than 8 times the size of Texas to perfect these experiments in hopes of producing a higher agricultural yield. The process of climate modification is also being taken more seriously as a potential way to prevent impending disasters related to climate change.

Large portions of China are covered in desert, and these tactics are also being developed in the hopes that these barren regions could become habitable land.

It’s working.

The method is called cloud seeding. A university study published in 2020, conducted with the US National Science Foundation, put forth the first credible evidence that cloud seeding can be highly effective at producing larger amounts of rain and snow, if done with careful planning and in the right conditions.

A hundred years of the passage of time has proven merit to yet another one of Nikola Tesla’s ideas. While we do not have complete control, humans are now able to adjust the weather with surprising success.

Tesla did not spend much time on the idea of weather control, but due to the nature of his work in wireless signaling and other fields that led him into building large antennae in order to conduct his research, it was only natural that it crossed his mind. Yet, time has proven merit to his idea that it is possible to control the weather/climate.

This idea inspired him to build machines capable of producing high-voltage lightning bolts: In commenting on this technology, he predicts making desert into fertile land

“The first gratifying result was obtained in the spring of the succeeding year when I reached tensions of about 1,000,000 volts with my conical coil.”

This was essential, Tesla claimed, for his “world system” of wireless power transmission. Tesla’s prediction for this tech is chilling:

“By its means the human voice and likeness will be reproduced everywhere and factories driven thousands of miles from waterfalls furnishing the power; aerial machines will be propelled around the earth without a stop and the sun’s energy controlled to create lakes and rivers for motive purposes and transformation of arid deserts into fertile land.”
